The family of a Bridgeport man who was killed after a car hit his motorcycle is asking the public for help to cover his funeral expenses.
Police said Ray Gomez, 36, was hit by a car while riding his motorcycle on Stratford and Carrol avenues.
Laiza Aponte, the victim’s wife told News 12 it brings her "some comfort" to know that her husband whose life, she says, was built around motorcycles died doing what he loved most.
She says her life has been changed forever by this tragedy.
“I had to stop and think, and I said, what am I going to tell my kids? That was the biggest thing, what was I going to tell my kids,” said Ponte.
The family has created a GoFundMe link to cover funeral and burial expenses.
Councilwomen Eneida Martinez and Aidee Nieves are pushing for state lawmakers to add traffic lights, speed bumps and speed cameras along Stratford and Carrol avenues.
"We really have to do something about what's happening here," said Martinez. Community activist Tony Barr says Bridgeport drivers need to do their part as well. “We have to come up with a solution," Barr said. “Slow down, please slow down." Bridgeport police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call 203-576-TIPS.
